On September 1st 2019, the eye of Hurricane Dorian made landfall on the Abaco Islands with maximum sustained winds of 185 mph (295 km/h), making it the strongest hurricane on record to affect the Bahamas. Hurricane Dorian killed at least 58 people in the Bahamas – 49 on Abaco and 9 on Grand Bahamas.
The effects of Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas were among the worst experienced for any natural disaster in the country. Damage was estimated at over US$7 billion, and there were at least 58 deaths in the country. Another 600 people were left missing after the hurricane.
Hope4Hope is a Facebook Group created to provide immediate and ongoing support to those in the Abacos and Northern Bahamas who have been devastated by Hurricane Dorian. Our goal is to provide transportation of needed supplies by air or water to Marsh Harbor and any other areas in need. All locals that can help with coordination is encouraged to post on their page.
A number of people including The Stampini Team were able to get together to contribute relief supplies to victims of the devastating hurricane. Through Hope4Hope FB page we were able to successfully gather relief goods, organize shipping and transportation and even help missing pets find their owners or find a new family to adopt them.
It was amazing how we were able to help minimize the anger and sadness that the victims of this disaster must have felt just by reaching out and offering help. We believe that no matter how small or big our donation was, it came from our hearts, and along with the relief goods is our compassion and empathy that will assure them that there will always be someone willing to help and that everything will be okay in the end.
As of October 2nd, airdrops and boats deliveries of 60,000 pounds of relief goods arrived and thousands of Grand Bahama residents received hurricane relief.
